Mandatory registration (NDIS)
Mandatory registration is the NDIS reform under which providers of particular support types, previously able to operate unregistered, must register with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and meet the obligations registration carries.
What has changed
Supported independent living and platform providers moved to mandatory registration in 2026, with further support categories announced to follow. Which categories are in scope, and from when, is set out by the Commission and is the place to check for your own supports.
Categories, thresholds and timeframes are set by the regulator and change; confirm the current requirements with the regulator for your sector before acting on a real case.
What registration asks for
Registration is not a one-off form. It means an audit against the NDIS Practice Standards, worker screening for the relevant roles, an incident management system with reportable incidents notified, a complaints system, and documented procedures a provider can show are current and followed.
