Internal audit
An internal audit is a provider’s own structured check of its compliance against the standards it is held to, carried out before and between external audits, with findings turned into corrective actions.
Why do one
The external audit decides registration or accreditation. The internal audit is how gaps surface on your terms rather than the auditor’s. Done against the same standards, question by question, it tells you what evidence you have, what you are missing and what to fix first.
What makes it count
An internal audit that produces a tidy score and no actions has not done its job. The record is the questions asked, the evidence found or not found, the findings, and the corrective actions raised from them, each with an owner and a close-out. Some regulators expect a provider to show a cycle of self-assessment and improvement; confirm what yours expects.
